On Thursday 26th August, local children had the chance to learn how to ‘Bee Kind’ to insects and wildlife as part of a special event held by Market Gates Shopping Centre, Great Yarmouth.
The children took part in a litter picking exercise where they learned all about how they could help to keep their communities wildlife friendly, before getting the chance to view some live bugs under a microscope.
Having learnt a host of fascinating facts about the insects, they then set to building their new creepy-crawly friends an ‘insect hotel’ out of found logs and rocks and setting up feeders and nest boxes for birds.
Dee Greenwood, Deputy Centre Manager said of the day “It was a lovely event, the children were all well behaved and it was nice to see children learning about the environment and being able to help create an area to encourage bees and wildlife to thrive”.
Dee continued by saying “Sustainability is high on everyone’s agenda at the moment and the centre is planning several events over the coming months to support Environmental Impact and Wellbeing. A huge thank you to our supporting Retailers and Market Gates staff who helped out”.
