Market Gates Shopping Centre has been treating local children to special sensory sessions with their Christmas mascot Elfie.

The ‘An Elf to Yourself’ sessions are designed for children who find dealing with crowds and noise difficult, something that can make traditional Christmas activities such as visiting Santa more challenging for families.

The 10 minute sessions give children the chance to meet Elfie in smaller groups in a quieter environment than usual, with the visit adapted to the individual needs of the child. The events have proved a big hit with visitors, so much so that the centre is now offering children the chance to meet Santa himself in his grotto in similarly designed sessions.
