Who we are

Ashdown Phillips & Partners was established in 2004, by founding Directors Richard and Kate Phillips. They believed there was a better and more sustainable way to manage property and set out to become the closest thing to an in-house service a client could find. Our clients range from professional property owners and developers to multi-industry investors with little knowledge of the UK property industry. We offer a full range of property management services. And, because we are experts, we are well known for our comprehensive due diligence procedures and are increasingly being asked to consult with our existing clients – and potential new clients – to give pre-purchase advice.

We are proud to be part of a brilliant team.

I have worked at Ashdown Phillips since 2013 and have been a Director since 2017. I work on a wide variety of sites, from office buildings to large shopping centres which all present their own unique set of challenges and opportunities.

The specific role of a surveyor varies from property to property (and from company to company) but essentially, we are the point of contact on a property for the client, the occupiers, the FM, the client accountant and anyone else who happens to be involved. We are responsible for bringing it all together and making sure the property runs as it should.

Passion

I love solving problems and anyone who has taken on property knows they usually come bedevilled with them! I have a thing for making sure we manage our sites in the proper way, whether that is on the ground or in the background. Some will find this a little odd, but nothing pleases me more than the knowledge a property can be handed over free of any problems.

Background

I completed a structural and civil engineering degree but decided to follow my parents into surveying.  I have worked for various managing agents and clients giving me an extensive knowledge of property management and landlord and tenant.  I always enjoy working with colleagues to solve challenging problems whether they are legal or practical.

Driven by

As a family most summer holidays are spent in Trekker, our 35-year-old campervan.  We always agree a plan, but Trekker does break down and plans have to change.  It is the same with property management – you make a plan but have to be ready to react to unexpected changes.

I started as a secretary at a retail agency firm and whilst there I realised I quite liked commercial property so moved on to work as a property technician. I then went onto take on various surveying roles over a period of 15 years to eventually become an Associate Director in Surveying at Ashdown Phillips.
