I came to the UK is 2005, staring working in the security sector. After being asked to cover a Building Manager role for a few weeks, I decided this was the path I wanted to take and worked my way up to where I am now.

I have responsibility for the overall management of a flagship building in the heart of Birmingham’s business district, making sure that the building runs smoothly day to day and being accountable for all aspects of facilities management.

Background

I started as an in-house Facilities Manager in 1991. Along the way I studied and picked up IOSH & BIFM membership and progressed through todays CIWFM. I have worked in many industries and for many companies including; J D Edwards, Vodafone, Johnson Controls, Vail Williams, Gardiner & Theobald, Thames Valley Science Park, and Ascot Racecourse.

I am the Facilities Manager for R+ providing day-to-day Facilities Management support to a flagship 5 floor building with a number of demanding tenants.

Background

I have always worked in a retail environment, having worked at a high street jewellers for 11 years, working up from a Sales Associate to Store Manager.

My role at Ashdown Phillips

My role involves a lot of different tasks, some of which are invoicing, liaising with staff, contractors, and tenants, building relationships with tenants, collecting data, creating the bookings for out Community Zone, and assisting our Centre Manager, Operations Manager, and Marketing Manager.

Background

I’ve worked at the Custard Factory for just over 9 years, going from being a doorman for the events to becoming the site security manager. This was my last role in security before getting my promotion to Assistant Operations Manager for Ashdown Phillips.

My role at Ashdown Phillips

Maintaining the up keep of an 18 acre estate in Birmingham city centre and managing the maintenance team and the needs of a large site where lots of issues can occur daily.

I’ve been working in Property Management FM for over a decade and began my journey as a Building Manager and progressed through to my current role. Prior to Property Management I was working as an Operations Manager for a serviced office provider in Central London.

My role at Ashdown Phillips

I oversee the Facilities Management team for London and the South, I am responsible for the onsite delivery of services across the portfolio as well as training, mentoring and developing my team. I work closely with the Senior Facilities Management leadership team to deliver the FM strategy to support the business.

My background includes customer service and 6 years’ worth of experience within the Travel and Tourism industry.  

My role at Ashdown Phillips 

I am an Event Co-Ordinator at The Terrace in Leeds. I work closely with our clients ensuring that their meetings, conferences, training days or even BBQ events run as smoothly as possible. 

Background

Having acquired experience in various London’s prestigious locations, I became part of the Ashdown Phillips team. My academic journey in the fields of architecture and fine arts gave me a refined appreciation for architectural buildings and a passion for creating spaces that inspire and bring us together in a sensational working environment.

Passion

Every instant of my life is a chance for self-discovery and betterment for reaching the greatness of our human existence; introspection, psychological work, help me immensely in overcoming obstacles and to learn from existential circumstances and imperfections.

I have 9 years of experience in Facilities Management in a variety of sectors. I also hold a BA in Roman Philology, though it has very little relevance to my current job!

Passion

I enjoy the daily challenges and take immense pride in everything that I do. I come from sunny South Africa and love spending time out there with family. If I’m not in the office, you will find me either on a beach, in a tent or looking for my flip flops! I believe in a good coffee, good friends and balance.

I studied Criminology at Undergraduate level and then Terrorism Studies to Masters level before falling into the world of Facilities Management. I have worked in various Commercial and Retail FM environments since finishing University.

I worked in education as a HLTA for 12 years & set up my own cleaning business in 2020. I now work at Bee House, helping the Centre Manager to ensure that the building runs as efficiently as possible.

Here in my role at Ashdown Phillips I provide excellent interpersonal skills in a client facing setting to all of out occupiers and members of the public alike who come in to use our café area, to answer and problem solve any queries they may have. Booking and overseeing all event operations and maintaining all of our social media accounts.

Background

My career started 25 years ago working as part of a dynamic and successful in house FM team at a market leading games software company. I’ve since worked for a leading analytical software company and Ashdown Phillips. I’ve had the opportunity to deliver professional facilities services on an extensive and varied range of commercial properties from office buildings to innovative research parks and business centres. My experiences have allowed me to develop & build a strong and effective FM skill set that is still expanding today.

As the Operations Manager at the Digbeth Estate, I am responsible for the day-to-day management of the facilities side of the estate and also Line Manager for our Reception team.

I entered the shopping centre industry in 2000, working my way steadily upwards. I then took a 2-year break to manage holiday accommodation on the Greek island of Corfu. I am a proud winner of a SCEPTRE Award for Operations Manager of Year in 2018.
